Voltalis and Samsung have announced a partnership to capitalize on the flexibility potential of Samsung appliances to help power grid balancing, popularly known as Demand Response. Combining Voltalis’ knowledge and European leadership with Samsung’s advanced technology like SmartThings AI Energy mode, integrated in millions of products worldwide such as heat pumps, aims to deliver additional flexibility sources to the global electrical grid.
Grid flexibility is a key facilitator of the energy transition since it enables the deployment of additional renewable energy sources, ensures power supply, and contributes to the decarbonization of electrical networks. This collaboration might help to avert potential blackouts while enabling Samsung’s end-users to achieve energy savings in a time of high electricity prices. Voltalis and Samsung intend to launch a common Demand Side Response offer eventually.
“This global partnership with Samsung directly echoes Voltalis objectives of enlarging the base of connected appliances to its platform. Combining our innovation capabilities will open a new path in the way of intelligently integrating new usages on flexibility markets for the benefit of consumers”, comments Sébastien Condom, Senior Vice President at Voltalis.
“We are excited to work with Voltalis to innovate in-home energy management in France with SmartThings Energy and Samsung’s smart appliances. We look forward to providing ways of sustainable living to our customers through our collaboration.” adds Chanwoo Park, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics.
The partnership will be developed throughout this year, starting in France before expanding to other countries globally.
