Making energy more flexible, more efficient
Our business? Flexibility operator
As electrical flexibility specialists, we have developed cutting-edge expertise in Demand Response, also known as ‘intelligent demand management’, which consists of temporarily reducing the electricity consumption of a building (residential, tertiary or industrial) at the request of an electricity system operator. This practice allows the electricity grid to become more flexible: to cope with variation in consumption or production.
As Europe’s foremost operator in demand response, Voltalis is certified by RTE, the French grid operator, for our real-time role in balancing and securing the electrical grid. We also hold certifications that allow us to provide services to the Primary Reserve, participate in capacity markets, and bid on the day-ahead spot market

Unique technological and operational know-how
We are the first company to have deployed a large-scale smart consumption control solution for the residential sector, with over one and a half million connected devices across Europe and growing daily. Our proprietary technology, which is embarked in our smart thermostats to modulate the flow of energy across hundreds of thousands of heating appliances while generating energy savings. A simple IoT solution that targets a major source of energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Voltalis is completely free for users, funded at every stage by system operators.
Our ambition
To leverage technology to enable the energy transition
Based on the observation that households and businesses represent an essential source of savings and electrical flexibility, we offer them the energy usage management solution they have been missing, which makes it effortless to contribute to the energy transition.
We are convinced that this is the best way to get all consumers involved in an unconstrained and mutually supportive sustainable approach, allowing everyone to make a significant impact. Indeed, electric heating of buildings accounts for over 40% of the national electricity demand during peak times.
Voltalis is well established and proven both technologically and operationally, to be transformative, providing an immediate and highly competitive answer to the challenges faced by the electrical grid.

The critical evolution of the electrical system
The transition to a low-carbon future, combined with rising energy demands, is leading to a significant increase in electricity consumption—projected to grow by 150% globally by 2050. Renewable energy is expected to provide half of the EU’s energy by 2050, with intermittent sources tripling their share in the global energy mix. In this scenario, the electrical system must continue to ensure a reliable supply while decarbonising, all within controlled costs.
Demand response: A strategic, economic, and environmental necessity
It’s no longer as simple as using less energy – rather how we should use what we generate smarter. In particular at the right times to maintain the security of the electrical grid and prevent the need for thermal power plants or backup reactors. Flexibility has become essential for the grid, with the demand for it expected to quadruple by 2050.
Among the various forms of flexibility, demand management is already a reality. At Voltalis, we are continuously innovating to expand its deployment on a larger scale.
